Watch: Sun of Goldfinger Studio Debut Teaser

David Torn, Ches Smith, and Tim Berne all perform multiple sets at Big Ears 2019, from solo performances to world premiere collaborations to their standard bands. But the trio gets together for a rare set as Sun of Goldfinger, too. They’re an ecstatic and exploratory ensemble that flaunts surreal senses of harmony and momentum, with the textural abstraction of Torn and Berne flashing beneath and around Smith’s elastic sense of rhythm, shifting from soul to skronk without notice. At last, their self-titled studio debut arrives March 1 via ECM. This wildly animated trailer has us very excited.
