Ettore Buzzini

DATE, TIME & VENUE DETAILS TBD

Ettore Buzzini doesn’t play banjo like he’s trying to preserve something.

He plays it like he’s trying to set it on fire.

Imagine Earl Scruggs, Eddie Van Halen, and Lord Byron getting together for a collaboration: it might sound something like the young Swiss-American songwriter and banjo prodigy. At 18, the North Carolina-raised musician is rooted in bluegrass but increasingly melds it with the drama, precision, and sheer scale of classical music. His songs summon larger-than-life characters, struggle, adventure, destiny, and worlds beyond the ordinary.

Haunting lyrics, vivid imagery, and epic compositions drive songs like “Ragnarok,” the story of a young warrior preparing for the ultimate battle; “Out in the Marshy Waters,” a Southern Gothic psychological tale; and “Birth of Eros,” an instrumental banjo piece about a soul in purgatory finding hope in love.

He looks like he wandered out of either a Brontë novel or a Van Halen concert rather than off a bluegrass festival stage. That contradiction is part of the appeal: romanticism, virtuosity, danger, and a five-string banjo flirting with the edge of its promise.

His shows are fun, intense, and deep all at once. The precision of his Swiss-Italian birthright meets the most raucous of American instruments, and the energy is over the top. Appalachian Gothic lore rides unbridled alongside European Romanticism. One minute you’re singing along to a bawdy murder-and-moonshine tune; the next, you’re hanging on every word of an epic tale of mythic heroism. Gustav Mahler meets Earl Scruggs. William Tell meets Dale Earnhardt.

His music is an unlikely collision of hard-driving bluegrass, classical forms and flourishes, and poetic lyricism. It reaches instinctively toward heroic destiny—the mythic Western hero reborn through five strings. The result can feel elegant one moment and slightly unhinged the next—fast, lyrical, wild, intense.

Ettore isn’t trying to fit neatly inside a genre. He’s building a world of his own.
