Brandon Ross Phantom Station
“… (Brandon) Ross is a one-man atmosphere factory, availing himself of all the sounds—cries, squeaks, cracks, fuzz, whispers, organ-like echoes—that an electric guitar, in the hands of a master, can produce.” – Paris Review
Brandon Ross is a New York City-based guitarist/composer/singer/songwriter. As a performing and recording artist, Ross has collaborated with many innovative voices in modern music, including Wadada Leo Smith, Cassandra Wilson, Henry Threadgill, and many others. He returns to Big Ears with his project Phantom Station, composed of himself (electric and acoustic guitars), Graham Haynes (cornet/electronics), David Virelles (keyboards), JT Lewis (drums), and Hardedge (sound design). Phantom Station is about the action of creation and communication as expressed in a musical collective. There is no prior rehearsal or specified musical direction mandated. It is an expression of the beauty of diversity, ability and independence of an impermanent community of agile creators – “Open Music” created and experienced in the opportunities of the present moment.
