The second child of a Jamaican intellectual and a would-be Marxist revolutionary, billy woods is a rapper who defies easy categorization. On the mic his versatile flows and ability to tackle topics other artists wouldn’t dream of brings a unique perspective to the familiar ones. After spending much of the 2000s as half of the now defunct Super Chron Flight Brothers (with Privileged), woods struck out on his own with 2012’s audacious mission statement, History Will Absolve Me. His most recent record, Maps, with Kenny Segal, landed on several favorite album of the year lists, including The Quietus and Pitchfork. If his mind blowing record with Kenny Segal wasn’t enough, his rap collaboration with Elucid, Armand Hammer, will release their sixth studio album later this year, We Buy Diabetic Test Strips.
